Fundoshi Rehash 32 - Black and White Gauze Part 2

The original fundoshi photos used in this rehash can be found herehere and here.  For this rehash set of post-production mayhem, I chose to try to get a more neony (is that even a word?) look to the rather flat and well lit original photos.

The first step I took was to turn up the black point and saturation, just a tiny bit.

Next, I played with the curves filter, which plays with the ʻtonalʻ quality of the photo. As you can see, that really did a number on the ʻtonalʻ aspect of the photo! I then played a bit with the levels filter, which also affects the tonal aspect of photos in some other mathematical way I donʻt understand...that is why I play! I didnʻt quite like the green and orange nature this  all resulted in, so for the final step, I played with the white balance, making the light source much, much, much cooler.

Fundoshi Rehash 38 - Purple Gauze Part 2

Originally seen here and here, today takes a black and white take on this purple gauze fundoshi.

The first steps I took was to brighten the exposure just a bit. I did this in order to set up more contrast when I transitioned the photo to black and white.

Next up was changing to black and white. I also adjusted the intensity of the separate color channels that make up the black and white filter. If you have that availability in your software, I suggest playing with it. For these photos, I liked the look achieved by pumping up the green a lot and the red channel a little. For the final, I applied my favorite edge sharpening filter to bring out some details.

Fundoshi Rehash 36 - Grey Spooky Fabric

This fundoshi made of Spooky Fabric purchased during Halloween is not one of my favorite for comfort. The fabric making up this cloth is not soft. The warp and weft are quite large and open, making the thick threads dig into the skin. I donʻt think I have a photo, but prolonged wearing does cause a waffle-like pattern on tender flesh.

It is one of my favorites for taking photos. The exact same properties that make it uncomfortable to wear help it play with light in great ways. This is why I did a two light setup, one being a very deep green. You can see the originals hereherehere and here. Thatʻs a lot of grey spooky fabric photos...which means there were only enough surplus for this one post.

For this visit, I wanted to see if I could make the photos a bit crisper and reduce the green glow from the lighting.

You can see that the original photo is a bit ʻsoftʻ in itʻs focus and tone. I did this to bring out the green lighting more in the original shoot. The first thing I did was to turn up the contrast a bit while turning down the color saturation.

Next, I played with the green, cyan and blue color channels until I got the coloring I was after. The final touch was an edge sharpening filter. This really made the fundoshi in some of the photos pop.

Fundoshi Rehash 30 - Purple Voile Part 2

The first Fundoshi Rehash of these surplus photos took us to a colorful, purpley, pinky, reddy place. This batch take us to darker place.

The first step was to lower the exposure a bit and turn up the blacks.

Next up was an increase of the overall contrast of the photos. It was then a matter of converting to black and white. One trick I have learned is to play a bit with the black and white intensity based on the photos base color profile. For this set, I increase the black and white filter significantly more for the blues in the photo to get the look I was going for.
