Orange Gauze Fundoshi - The Test - Part Two

Okay, so I stood up wearing the orange fundoshi while wearing the skirt. Technically, I did not break my rule as I wasnʻt putting it on or taking it off.

Staying on the ground to take off the fundoshi was much easier than putting it on. I will admit to that.

It was an interesting challenge to give and I think it resulted in a few poses I would not have thought of doing.

Does anyone have any other ʻtestsʻ I could try to get a different set of poses? Let me know!

Enough teasing....onward to the taking off....

Fundoshi Byproduct - Part Two

Back into the light.....with a Partridge Family song ringing in my head....I am happy again.....

Singing and dancing with my orange fundoshi and fundoshi related skirt makes me feel lighter all over.

Now that the strips have been shown in darkness and in light, I donʻt know what to do with it.

Perhaps I will take it apart and make a rug for my kitchen.....

Until then, onwards for more.....

More Guaze Fundoshi - Deep Burgundy - Part Two

Remember the burgundy fundoshi?
fundoshi rokushaku
It all started with some odd angles Iʻve never used. Now that the fundoshi is being lost to the grand oblivion surrounding us all, I have moved down to the floor of the studio.

Crawling through the dark void.

Forever searching.

Iʻve got to take it easy. "No more Camus for you......"

Keep going for more......

Purple Fundoshi - Up Close and Personal

For the purple voile fundoshi with the chevron pattern, I wanted to get some closeup shots, but keep the lighting with a higher contrast than I normally use when doing closeups.

In doing it this way, I was hoping some of the subtle blue colors would be seen.

Of course, dimmer light means higher risk during focus, but I think I got some shots.

Changing to dimmer lighting also meant the work space was cooling down...it was getting hot! Youʻll see what I mean in about 4 blogs....

Fundoshi Byproduct

When making a fundoshi, especially if it is a material I havenʻt used, there is a process I go through for getting the desirable width. For thinner fabrics, I prefer a thicker width, about 13 inches. For thicker fabrics, I prefer about a 10 inch width. When I first started, I would cut a bunch of fabric at 14 inch widths. I then would shave a bit off until I reached what was comfortable to wear.

This results in strips of fabric from half an inch to a few inches wide and three yards long. I tend to be a bit thriftily, so this has all been saved.
Look at all those colors....some you havenʻt seen yet!!!!!
The old costume designer came out in me coupled with my edict to make things by hand and this is what I came up with.....
By weaving the strands between a braid, I created a skirt (and Iʻm man enough to not call it a ʻkiltʻ or a ʻwrapʻ). The technique I used i similar to weaving a ti leaf skirt used in polynesian islands.

The rest of the shoot consists of the typical poses, wearing the skirt high and low, etc.....
Onward to more fun.....

And for those of you that enjoy the designs over the past year....here they are.....

Next time on fundoshi, fabric and photos:  After creating all these designs, what happens to those stray strips of material that are floating around? Stay tuned.....
