2022 Hotel Series 2 - Red Batiste Fundoshi 1

Based on photos of the hotel room on line, I thought the bedspread was red, which is why I brough this particular fundoshi. Unfortunately, it is more of a salmon color, which I donʻt think is quite working with the red.

2022 Hotel Series 2 - Blue Gauze Fundoshi 1

I took a quick vacation to relax a bit and found myself in another hotel room. We know I canʻt resist figuring out ways to have a fundoshi shoot while staying away from home. My trusty camera recently died on me, so I have a new toy to play with that has a nifty time-lapse feature that allows me to set up automatic snapping in any number of combinations. I found the sweet spot is a picture every 5 seconds. My previous camera only allowed 3 shots in a series, which means every 3 shots I would have to reset the camera. Now, I can set up any number of shots without worrying about leaving the ʻposingʻ space to do a camera reset. 

Thatʻs enough of that...on to the shoot in a soft, comfortable gauze fundoshi against the sheer white curtains of the balcony. In an upcoming series, you will see how I manipulated post-production to get different effects with these curtains, but for today, just the normal lighting and color.

Did I mention this would be a ʻstrip shootʻ from when I got back to the hotel from my wanderings?

2022 Hotel Series - Khaki Fundoshi - Wet 3

The last set of these fundoshi photos is my favorite. I wanted to emulate the look of some of the artistic photographic work done in the 40ʻs. I went for a stark black and white contrast, but tried to keep it smooth at the same time. 

Here is the before/after screen capture. To get the tone right, I played with about 30 different settings and filters, making small adjustments along the way. It took a bit of time, but Iʻm pleased with how the turned out.

2022 Hotel Series - Khaki Fundoshi - Wet 2

Part 2 of the hotel shoot takes us to a more muted color set. I wanted to get a flat feel in the photos to match the rather boring looking tile in the shower. 

I have been using a new photo editor which does not allow me to easily show a progression of the changes Iʻve made to a photo. I can show a nifty ʻbefore/afterʻ screen shot:

As you can see, I brightened it up a bit and turned down the color saturation. I also played with some of the preset filters to even out the color tones.

2022 Hotel Series - Khaki Fundoshi - Wet 1

I havenʻt done a fundoshi photo shoot in quite a while. I only have a couple of designs that I havenʻt shown, so have been procrastinating doing a final studio setup.

I found myself in a hotel room for the night this week and couldnʻt resist a little ʻwetʻ shoot. Luckily, I had my tripod with me. Here are a set from that shoot. I have a couple more sets where I applied some post-production work, so stay tuned!
