Gauze Fundoshi - A Good Use of White - Part One

White on White on White

That is the order of the day.

You know about gauze, so no need to pontificate on the loveliness of its soft feel. I also have a new design to show off. You can see this is another attempt at adding color. As with my last attempt, most of the color washed out, leaving spots of mostly yellow.

If you read my blog, you also know Iʻve been getting fed up with the white muslin backdrop as it is prone to wrinkles. Today, there is a good use for it. Iʻve done this technique before, but this time Iʻve added an extra element.

Here is a breakdown of the setup, from the farthest away from the camera:

More white lights with reflectors.
Clear plastic backdrop.

The muslin diffuses the light, creating a glowing background. The plastic adds an interesting element to the foreground. The trick here is to not cast light on the plastic. Once this happens, the reflection gets a bit overwhelming and the subject is lost. I did a bit of experimenting before coming up with a formula that worked.

The only unfortunate thing about the shoot is you canʻt see the light color in the fundoshi very well.

fundoshi…white with a hint of colored spots

fabric...100% cotton gauze

photography…white light, white backdrop, white light, plastic foredrop (did I just make up a word?)

That is it for now.....not much else to say....so onward to the rest.....

Khaki Cheesecloth Fundoshi - Back by Popular Demand - Part Two

Cheesecloth fundoshi....so light and sheer.

This dim lighting really brings the color and pattern out.

What fun to put on, wear and take off.

Sarashi Fundoshi and Kimono

While the coverall from a few blogs ago was a costume I had hanging around the house, this kimono is not a costume.

fundoshi and hanjuban
I purchased it from Yukata Kimono Market Sakura in Japan.  No, I wasn't in Japan...I ordered it from the link. The transaction was quite smooth and easy, but again, ordering from foreign countries does have certain risks and 'your mileage may vary' as they say.

fundoshi and hanjuban
In the shoot, I am putting on a hanjuban, yukata kimono and an obi. I purchased this, along with sandals to go to my local cherry blossom festival.

This year was a little different as I have never worn a fundoshi under the kimono. Somehow, it felt correct!

Pink and Moody Fundoshi - Part Two

Now - back in the red light district with the hot pink fundoshi.

As is custom, this will be a 'taking off' set of photos.

The low lighting really deepens the color of this gauze fundoshi.

I hope you enjoy!

Fundoshi of Brown Voile - How I’ve Missed You Part Two

Brown voile - oh so light and breezy.
fundoshi
Now it is time to be taken off - away from my body as I writhe around on the white backdrop I am getting sick of.
fundoshi
It just takes too much work to get rid of wrinkles and deal with the folds, etc.
fundoshi as art
I am looking into getting a white vinyl backdrop - that may fix all my issues.....

Sorry to vent....enjoy the photos!
